Add to that the dread-inducing locations. While Little Nightmares 2 has its fair share of exhilarating moments, it doesn’t mean that this game is not fully that. The game carries many puzzle-solving instances accompanied by stealth mechanics from the original Little Nightmares game. This four-hour-long game stalk through the shadows has focused on not being a repetition from the first part. As everyone knows, the game has a new protagonist named Mono. A small boy who is trying to make his way through a world full of oversized, monstrous grown-ups. Among these grown up’s, there is the prime villain, the strict, elderly school teacher.

And believe me, this elderly school teacher can make you feared twice the times of all the fears you had towards teachers. Not giving many details about this villain as this should be checked out in person. There is also the old horror staple of the walls of grabbing hands. And many other enemies stuffed inside the game. Thank you, developers! These monsters are in no way become annoying in any way after playing for a while. They are actually indeed needed for the game in order to engage the players.

Little Nightmares 2 Review: About Little Nightmares

Developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Little Nightmares is a puzzle-platform horror adventure game. The first game in this series was developed at first for Microsoft Windows, later It was made available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia. The game is set in a mysterious world, where it follows the journey of Six, a hungry little girl who is trying to escape the man who is also an iron vessel inhabited by monstrous, twisted beings. Ever since its release, the game was able to win the hearts of both the gaming community and the critics.

She is disguised in a paper bag mask, different from the original game’s Six. The key difference compared against the original game’s protagonist is Mono’s ability to pick up and carry different weapons.  These weapons can be used to smash through specific sections of the scenery. And if needed, can break away smaller enemies. Mono has equipped with the services of Six herself, as she has the AI-controlled partner for her quest in the game. But you are expecting that same level of partnership that we saw in the PS2 classic, then you may be disappointed, as her relationship with Mono is nothing much to write about as it doesn’t evolve into any kind of partnership.

The Helpful Six

Throughout the game, the AI-controlled partner Six will always be there to help the players. This partner will go ahead with the players if there is any kind of chase with the antagonist happens. But moving ahead, it will be able to shoe the players which crate to hide behind a split second before the lumbering farmer can unload their shotgun spray. But this all happens in a split second, and if everything doesn’t go as planned, it may not end up good.

And as said before, this partner doesn’t do much help to define it as a partnership. While the players are able to replace it over their position, it doesn’t seem to be that effective when it comes to puzzle-solving. It could sometimes even stubbornly standing still and thus block your path when you are doing any kinds of movements. If that’s not enough to infuriate you, it can even sometimes even ‘accidentally’ push the players out, at the time when the players are in a cover. Imagine if you suddenly jump in front of the watchful gaze of a wide-eyed warden. Even after some of these con’s it’s quite adorable to see Six occasionally mimicking Mono’s actions. What’s a relief is that Six is always able to find her way out if there are any kinds of obstacles that get in the way. All this may make some think why Six was even included in the game. This all for an unexpected story pay-off in the latter part of the game.

Problems in Little Nightmare 2?

This is not a problem, but dear lord, the villains are really good in Little Nightmares 2! If you have played the original game and you feel that the villains are capable of giving horror a lot, then the chances are high that you even love the villains in Little Nightmare 2. There are a lot of genuinely terrifying creations looking to capture you. The most terrifying among these crowd could be the school teacher with the serpentine neck.

You should hear is the leathery squeak of her stretching spine off-camera. That’s enough for you to get frightened about it and to gasp for what’s incoming. To avoid the many kinds of creatures from a face-off is to better not come in front of them by always being in stealth or to outrun it. If you think to outrun it, well, best of luck to you. This was the same method found in the original game.  As for the fights, Little Nightmares 2 doesn’t disappoint. Even the smallest amount of combat that happens can offer you some engaging moments.

Little Nightmares 2 Review: The Verdict

As we said while beginning the review, Little Nightmares 2 is great and good, sometimes even better than the original. The reintroduction of the Six characters as an AI-controlled co-op partner is usefully used for a better storytelling part later in the game. But it can be used to solve the games’ puzzles or at least serve as a short distance vehicle, but the developers didn’t do it, and hence it becomes a missed opportunity. The Thrilling encounter with the menacing mob of monstrosities has a good engagement if you are playing only this game instead of never playing the first. Those who have played the original may not feel it as that much engaging since it still carries some elements from the original game. We are wishing the developer Tarsier Studios’ artistry and ability will be used much better in the upcoming projects to make every player fully satisfied while playing the game.

This is said because of the aesthetic that the developers have committed to and have tried to showcase that in the game, in nearly every frame. They have properly used the open spaces. There are options where the players can wander off into the background and explore. These explorations are indeed worthy as they sometimes end up finding hidden collectibles or easter eggs nestled away. But this is not an entirely open-world game, as the players will eventually it the invisible wall after going a particular distance. That doesn’t mean they didn’t give much seriousness to the puzzles, as the game has some intelligent-level design puzzles. The puzzles in the game are also properly utilized. While exploring levels, players may bump into these puzzles. Players can usually find the puzzles in small, and truncated spaces. Take this as a tip, as it will come in handy when especially trying to look at the hidden key or that secret lever.

What’s not much great is in the combats, as the game gives you either very small weapons or provides melee weapons that are too big for the character. The players have to drag this weapon across the floor, heave them up, and then crash them down. Little Nightmares 2 knows what they are doing and what the modern horror games should be. Little Nightmares 2, much like its predecessor, has all of the goods that we have loved in the first part and, at the same time, has solved the issues the game had. If you are looking for a Horror game, where you want to get the best levels of thrills, Little Nightmare 2 is worth checking out. As the game tries its best to feel like a nightmare rather than an ordinary horror time. Also Read: Nintendo Switch Pro: All About The Next-Gen Console
